In the year before the country went into lockdown, police had launched an appeal over a “disturbing case” where a lone woman was the victim of a serious sexual assault in the early hours close to Nottinghams city centre.
Despite an intensive investigation into the shocking crime, Nottinghamshire Police have not given up hope of tracing the offender and bringing him to justice – and have now reappealed for information.
An appeal was even launched through Crimestoppers and a £5,000 reward offered.
Detective Inspector Craig Hall, from Nottinghamshire Police, said it was a disturbing case where a lone woman was attacked in the early hours of April 4, 2019, in North Sherwood Street.
“There was an in-depth police investigation, including forensic investigations and house-to-house enquiries at the time of the assault,” he said.

“We also released an image of a man we wanted to help with our enquiries. Despite intensive investigations and re-appeals within the media and the Crimestoppers appeal, we have been unable to solve this crime or trace the man in the pictures.
“We, therefore, welcome any further publicity and would urge anyone who may have any information at all, no matter how small you may think it is, or who may know the person in the images, to please still come forward and this investigation is still very much live.
“We would like to reassure the public that this investigation is still ongoing and we remain dedicated to doing everything we can to apprehend the person responsible and bring this perpetrator to justice. Hopefully we can bring some closure for the victim, who clearly has been through a terrible ordeal, which no one should ever have to endure.”
He added the attacker is believed to be in his 20s or 30s and described as wearing a black Adidas tracksuit top with a black top underneath which had white writing on.
He is also described as wearing black trousers, light-coloured trainers, and a black baseball cap.
Insp Hall added: “I’d like to encourage the public to come forward with any information or memory of that evening that may be of use in finding this individual.
“If you have information that may aid our officers in their investigation, please contact 101 and quote incident number 58 of 4 April 2019.”
A spokesperson for the charity Crimestoppers said: “The £5,000 reward in the case of the sex attacker in Nottingham city centre is no longer available. We offer around 50 enhanced cash rewards each year, but as a charity, we have limited funds”.
